On top of that, periodical exhibitions, as well as impressive cultural events take place quite frequently. Your Think Athens agenda proposals are always updated with the events taking place on the days of your visit to Athens.
Read more about the three permanent exhibitions of the airport below:
Exhibition of archaeological findings
Located in AIA’s Main Terminal Building (Departures Level – Entrance 3), the permanent exhibition of archaeological findings discovered in Mesogaia, contains 172 archaeological artifacts dating from the Neolithic and Early Helladic to the Post-Byzantine period. Inaugurated in 2003, it aims to highlight the rich cultural heritage of the area.
Copies of some of the more important artifacts brought to light during the construction of AIA can also be admired at the front entrances of the airport – Departures Level.
Museum opening hours: Monday through Sunday, 06:00 -23:00.
The Eleftherios Venizelos permanent exhibition
The establishment of Greece’s first Ministry of Aviation by Eleftherios Venizelos (1864-1936) was a milestone in the country’s development of civil aviation.
Paying homage to the eminent politician, the Eleftherios Venizelos Permanent Exhibition – located at the Departures Level of the Main Building – also gives visitors a feel for the role played by Venizelos in shaping the history and social course of Greece. Both his personality and political career are documented through a series of photographs that emphasise the most significant events in his life and highlight the political expertise and legacy of this key figure of Modern Greek history.
