Arts and culture since ever: Whispers of philosophy, politics and arts dating from thousands years ago merge with the stories of modern Athens - a city, where arts and culture are met everywhere, from the traditional bakeries to the numerous artistic initiatives.
Eternal beauty: The sunlight that spreads softly all over the city, the view of the sea, the seven hills that surround Athens, and the unique merge of ancient monuments with the contemporary cityscape, form a scenery that meets even the highest beauty standards...
Excellent weather conditions: With 18°C / 65 °F average annual temperature, Athens can promise you a city break with plenty of sun and outdoor activities throughout the whole year!
Food - a new standard of "good life": It's not about delicious food. It's about a whole new way of thinking about gastronomic experiences; Greek cuisine is a world of authentic tastes, colours, musics, landscapes, all embraced by the everlasting Greek hospitality.
Affordability, i.e. living more with less: Compared to other European cities, Athens is a very affordable choice with no quality compromises. A look on the choices presented in our agendas will convince you that you can live it all, without spending it all.
Activities upon request
In Athens you'll have the opportunity to organize activities that fulfill your personal interests: sailing, culinary sessions, hiking, anything!
You can make the activities as customized as you wish, depending on your interests, but also on the time and budget you wish to invest.
Tip:Pre-book your activity to make sure you will get the most out of it!
A cafe in Athens is the place where you can come across any type of discussion: love, politics, family issues, business...everything is discussed with a cup of coffee!
You will find numerous types of coffee to enjoy under the sun, next to a historical monument or in a small traditional cafe, playing chess or "tavli".
Tip: Don't miss to try traditional Greek coffee.
The night "is young" in Athens! Bars are from the place to have a cocktail listening to great music, to the meeting point of a "parea" (=group of friends).
Athenians spend their night not only in bars, but also in "ouzeri", where you can have a drink, light food and a lot of fun! There, you'll feel the beat of student life and of the cozy side of Athens.
Tip: Don't hesitate to talk to the person next to you. Greek hospitality goes to bed late as well!
Events & Performances
Lights, camera, action! Athens is full of stages and theatres. But you will also find great events and performances held in museums, restaurants, bars, even at the street! Either if you look for a classical ballet, a concert of world-famous jazz soloists, an experimental theatre or the next TedX event, in Athens you can find it all!
Tip: If online tickets are an option, you'd better book your seat in advance. The performances recommended in this platform are usually most wanted.
Probably the reason that Greeks love food is that Greek land and sea appear to be very generous with the quality of goods they produce: olive oil, vegetables of incomparable quality, very good meat, and the famous Greek fish will make you fall in love with at least some of the dishes you will taste in Athens. And what's more, in Athens you can find good food anywhere, 24/7!
Tip: Don't miss to taste Greek souvlaki (made of pork or chicken) and "gemista" (=stuffed vegetables).
Athens is a top choice for a city break with kids!
The good weather, the long pedestrian streets and the endless choices of food at anytime will make your life just so easy. On top, the different activities organized for the exciting immersion of children into Greek art and culture will make your kids' visit in Athens unforgettable!
Tip: Don't miss to visit the Children's Museum. Kids love it!
Museums & Exhibitions
Despite all modern types of hosting art and culture, museums remain an excellent way to demonstrate pieces of art.
The museums in Athens go far beyond that: not only do they host many and outstanding exhibitions, but they also organize performances, round table discussions and other kinds of events.
Take your chance to navigate through Greek history, get familiar with modern art, find out why religious art is much more than what we tend to think about, or give your kids the opportunity to visit exhibitions specifically designed for our youngest visitors.
Tip: Acropolis Museum is an absolute must.
From art objects of all price ranges to rare herbs and clothes of all fashion tastes, shopping in Athens is pleasant, convenient and affordable, compared to the rest of European cities.
